TOMASSIS - Weighbridge for dump trucks in quarries

The customer

TOMASSIS ENGINEERING is a Greek company engaged in the development, design, manufacture, and marketing of industrial weighing systems and weighing automation solutions.

TOMASSIS Engineering specializes in weighbridges, scales, dosing systems, silo and tank weighing, and weighing automation applications.

For a quarry site, TOMASSIS ENGINEERING designed a special weighbridge for weighing high-capacity articulated dump trucks. The project required a nominal capacity of 200 t with a 50 kg interval, on a deck 7 m wide and 9 m long.

The need

The main challenge was to design a mechanical structure that was as low-profile as possible in order to limit the height of the bridge, while maintaining excellent metrological accuracy and high durability for a quarry environment.

To achieve this goal, the 7 m × 9 m weighbridge deck had to rest on 12 support points distributed across three longitudinal beams.

The weighing system also had to allow for simplified commissioning, without requiring heavy calibration weights to be available on site.

Our solution

To meet the customer’s needs, SCAIME supplied 12 CB50X-DL digital load cells, each with a capacity of 40 tons.

The choice of the CB50X-DL directly met the project’s objectives:

High mechanical robustness suitable for dynamic loads and quarry operating conditions.
Accuracy compatible with the requirements of a 200-ton/50-kg weighbridge.
Calibrated digital output allowing for commissioning without the systematic use of calibration weights. Each load cell provides a calibrated digital output (200,000 points for 40 t with a typical accuracy of 0.1%). This feature enables accurate pre-calibration of the scale directly from the load cells.
